Relax your muscles: Sounds strange to do? It’s not. When you tense and relax different muscles of your body, you’re teaching your body how to de-stress. Start with your face muscles — tense all the muscles in your face, hold your frown for a few seconds and then let go. You can do this with different parts of your body — your neck, shoulders, abdomen, feet and so on. The best part? You can do it anywhere.

Yoga: Yoga comprises breathing techniques, movement as well as meditation, which is known to be a great stress reliever. Join a yoga class or learn some basic poses that you can even do at home.

Breathing exercises: Deep breathing has several advantages. You can do it anywhere and they work almost instantly by relaxing muscles and calming the mind. They oxygenate your blood, which in-turn ‘charges your brain.’

Meditate: Once you’ve started deep breathing, meditation is the next step. Your mind becomes calm when you meditate and you’ll realise that your concentration levels also increase. Start with a few minutes daily and gradually increase the amount of time. You’ll notice the difference in yourself almost immediately. Meditation also releases hormones that promote good health.

Start exercising: If you think that exercising is only for people who want to lose weight, think again. Studies have proved that exercising for an hour daily goes a long way in relieving stress. Start by brisk walking and then include a few basic exercises in your regime.

Have sex: Sex is probably the most natural stress reliever! Don’t think that making love will not be as pleasurable when you’re stressed. On the contrary, having sex not only has physical benefits but is also known to decrease stress levels.

Listen to music: More and more people are slowly discovering the power of music therapy. If you’re under a lot of stress, slip on your headphones and listen to music that makes you happy or reminds you of good memories. Listening to music when you’re stressed calms your mind, relaxes your body and even lowers your blood pressure.

Since I read about stories of Florence Nightingale in the Crimean War, I have built up a respect for nursing professional. Nurses always play major role in the complex world of medicine. Apart from assisting the doctors in surgical operations, they are focused on patient’s mental health and general well-being.

It’s not behind in career path as well. Nursing profession has such a high demand in developed countries that there is a bee line to become a Nursing Assistant recently. This would no more a labor job, but requires good qualification or certification to become eligible to apply for the nursing career. Most of the demands for nursing job, requires you to be certified nursing assistant (CNA).

If you or your friends are serious about this profession, you might hear about STNA instead of CNA as well. The difference is in federal vs. state mandating for both where STNA stands for State Tested Nursing Assistants. An STNA, or more commonly known as the nurse, needs to have a nursing assistant certification from their individual states to be legally allowed to treat patients.

Well, I would say websites like STNA.net can help you out to gain more information about the certification because getting the nursing assistant certification is an serious affair which requires not only to be trained for like 75 days but also to take your nursing assistant certification exam, which in most states; need to be taken 90 days after the completion of your course.

Upon completion of this test, you would be awared to work as STNA. Hope this information helps you in some way to achieve your goals.

The problem of back pain is becoming much more common today due to more sedentary lifestyles incorporating how and where we work. Often it is not until one suffers the sometimes crippling effect and immobility of this problem that attention is then focused on what might have caused the problem. It can be a result of sitting incorrectly or standing with poor posture.

If these causes are replicated over time they can produce severe back pain problems yet the symptoms can be reduced by easily followed routines that can result in easing current suffering plus also to prevent future problems occurring.

If you are spending ever longer periods sitting down at a desk during the day at work, it does not help that after such periods of inactivity, its back home to sit down again and relax. The easiest way to prevent possible back pain problems occurring is to try and reduce the amount of time that is spent sitting. Unfortunately, this is not always possible so it is beneficial to try and take frequent short periods of time when you can be on your feet, either just standing and stretching or walk around the room adopting the correct walking posture. When in a seated position for long periods ensure you have a purpose made back support which are readily available to purchase to ensure a correct seated position. This will ensure that the correct right angle is achieved for the hips and knees.

Don’t forget that the height of a chair is part of the secret to achieve the optimum sitting position. The feet should be able to be placed flat on the ground. The support from the chair should be firm and ensure the design incorporates a high back plus arm rests. And whilst seated at a desk, be aware that hunching or leaning over should be avoided as this puts extra strain on the back muscles. It is important to understand the potential strain that you can place on your body by crossing your legs as this puts undue pressure on the lower back as the muscles are then out of their natural alignment.

When seated, ensure that you can sit up straight with your elbows and arms on your chair. When getting out of a chair after sitting for a period of time, it is important to adopt the correct standing procedure. Very simply, stand up by straightening your legs rather than bending at the waist. Once standing, why not undertake some easy stretch exercises for the back to assist is warming the dormant muscles.

To avoid the symptoms of back pain or their recurrence, it is very helpful to undertake some stretching exercises which concentrate on the back area. Furthermore, to assist in good posture routine and strengthen the muscles that are prone to back pain, exercises such as Pilates will reinforce good habits and ensure that a correct posture and body movement is adhered to.

First lets find out what could be the causes of your neck pain from your daily routine.

What are the causes of neck pain?

There are number of things that we do every day to strain, weaken, and pressure our necks. We stand, bend, sit, and let our head slouch forward all day and shoulders round, all day, every day, then compound the problem with inactivity, holding muscles tightly, and bad exercises that only round the upper back and neck further.

How to fix the neck pain with the help of stretches?

Two Easy Stretches
Tight pectoral (chest and front of shoulder) muscles rotate your arms inward. To see if you do this, put your arms at your sides, look in the mirror and note direction of your thumbs. Do they face inward – toward each other? To restore this muscle group to functional resting length do these two stretches, then *use* the new straight positioning for all you do. It is not the stretches that fix the problem, but the purpose of the stretches - to allow you to hold healthy position the rest of the day

“Pec” Stretch (For pectoral muscles in front of your chest)

Face a wall, Lift one hand up, elbow bent out to the side, as if “in a stickup.” Shoulder down and relaxed.

Turn away from the wall, using the wall to gently brace your elbow back as you turn away.

Keep your shoulder down and back. If you bring it up and forward, you will be doing the opposite of the point of this training movement.

Feel the stretch in the front of your chest. If you don’t feel the stretch in the front chest, you are not doing this stretch right.

Keep head and back posture in line. Don’t let your lower back arch or your chin jut forward. Don’t push so hard that your shoulder (or anywhere else) hurts.

Hold just a few seconds, then switch arms.

Drop your arms and look at your thumbs again. Thumbs should face forward now.

Try the wall stand again. It should be easy to stand straight now. If not, see if you have done this stretch correctly.

Next, stretch the top of your shoulder (Trapezius stretch)

Stand against the wall, with your back and the back of your head against the wall, gently.

Put one hand behind you, as if in an opposite pocket.

Breathe in, then while breathing out, slide your other hand down the side of your body toward your knee.

Tilt your head downward to that same side, gently, but keep it as much against the wall as you comfortably can.

Don’t round or hunch forward, or drop or raise your chin.

Feel a nice stretch along your entire side.

Hold a second or two while breathing. Switch sides.

If your lower back hurts to do this trapezius stretch, you may be increasing the arch in your lower back.

Try the wall stand again and note that it is now easier to stand straight. If not, then you may have not done these two stretches as intended. Repeat correctly until your wall stand shows you have fixed the problem. Your wall stand should become straight starting the first day you start using this two-stretch method correctly

Do not do these two stretches “as stretches.” Do them many times a day to allow you to stand and move the rest of the day without the forward position that injures and brings on pain.

I want to dedicate the very first post of this blog to dental health. I think it should start from something that could cause lot of health trouble if not given enough attention to.

I used to see traces of blood as I rinse my teeth after brushing? Do you think it is normal and not worthy of any further thought? Well, I had to think again. I was suffering from gingivitis without even knowing it!

If left untreated, gingivitis can lead to gum disease, which is the leading cause of some serious dental problems and tooth loss in adults. So here I have 8 tips for dental health.

Be a strict follower of the “three-three” rule. You should devote at least 3 minutes 3 times a day to oral hygiene to maintain good dental health.

Take the boredom out of brushing. Brushing and flossing are perhaps two of the most boring activities. To take the boredom out of brushing, why not try dry brushing (brushing without toothpaste)?

Avoid torturing your teeth! The next time you brush, use a toothbrush with soft bristles and please don’t push it too hard!

Get it thoroughly cleaned. It would be wiser to brush your tongue and the roof of your mouth the next time you brush your teeth. It will increase the blood circulation around the tissues in your mouth and may help minimize the amount of bacteria present.

Don’t forget to floss. The food debris, which find their way through the tiny crevices between your teeth, can only be removed by flossing.

See what baking soda can do for your teeth! Baking soda has mild abrasive properties that can aid in getting rid of plaque. It can also neutralize the acidity produced by bacterial wastes in the mouth, serve as an effective deodorizer and give your teeth a gleaming polish!

Eat a more balanced diet - Studies prove that a poor diet may speed up the rate of gum disease and may also increase the severity of the condition.

Make dental visits a routine. Regular visits to your dentist may help you stay away from gum disease.

To prevent gingivitis and its eventual progression into a full-blown gum disease, it would be best to visit your dentist regularly. Only the dentist can diagnose the problem and give you the necessary advice and treatments. The suggestions or tips above can give you a better fighting chance to ward off gum disease and enjoy better dental health forever!
